Succulents are evergreen plants that are easy to care for

Succulents look great all year round and are easy to care for. They can be placed in many places in the home as they thrive in most conditions. The plants come in different colors, sizes and shapes, so it's possible to find exactly the plant you like.

Botanical name

Succulents are found in many plant families with different botanical names. The most common are: euphorbiaceae (warty milkweed family), cactaceae (cactus family) and crassulaceae (stonecrop family).

Flowers

Many succulents bloom with beautiful, distinctive flowers. Depending on the plant, the flowers can be small, star-shaped flowers that grow in clusters or larger single flowers.

Sizes

We sell a wide range of succulents from small plants of 5 cm to larger plants of around 60 cm. The final size of the plant varies depending on the species, but some of the largest succulents can eventually grow to around 90 cm tall.

Tips for caring for succulents

We recommend repotting your succulents approximately every 2 years during the summer months when the plants are growing. This gives the plants a good opportunity to grow bigger.

Watering: Succulents thrive on a little water and especially in the winter months they benefit from drying out between watering - so water your succulent when the potting soil is completely dry.

Light: These plants do best in a location with access to daylight.

Temperature: Succulents thrive in warmer temperatures from 18-24 degrees.

How to take cuttings of your succulents

With patience, you can grow your succulent into many plants. The easiest way to propagate succulents is to remove a leaf from the mother plant. Cut the leaf off as close to the stem as possible and retain as much of the leaf as possible. It is advantageous to include a small amount of the woody tissue at the root of the leaf. Allow the cut surface to dry over 3 days to allow the plant to form callus. Then plant the plant leaf in moist, well-drained soil in a bright spot without direct sun. Push the shoot slightly into the soil and keep the soil slightly moist until the plant takes root.

Did you know?

The name succulent comes from the Latin word "suculentus" which means "full of juice". This is because succulents store water in the strong juicy stems and plates, which also give succulents their beautiful sculptural shapes.
